What is the Federal Skilled Worker Program?
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is an Express Entry stream for skilled professionals with foreign work experience who want to become Canadian permanent residents. It uses a points-based system to evaluate candidates based on education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.
● Obtain Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry
● Include spouse and dependent children in application
● Access to healthcare, education, and social services
● Pathway to Canadian citizenship after meeting residence requirements
● Freedom to live and work anywhere in Canada (except Quebec)
● Minimum 67 points on FSWP selection grid
● Competitive CRS score for Express Entry pool ranking
● Comprehensive documentation package
● Meeting all IRCC deadlines and requirements
After qualifying for FSWP, candidates enter the Express Entry pool where they’re ranked by Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

FSWP Selection Factors (Out of 100 Points)
You need at least 67 points across six selection factors:
CLB 7 minimum for first language; CLB 5+ for second language
Max: 24 points for first language, 4 for second
Points vary by highest credential. E.g. Bachelor’s: 21 pts, Master’s: 23 pts, PhD: 25 pts
1 year: 9 pts; 6+ years: 15 pts
18-35 years: 12 pts. Decreases after 35. 47+: 0 pts
Valid job offer in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 job (with LMIA or LMIA-exemption)
Includes: prior study or work in Canada, spouse’s language score, relatives in Canada, etc.
Note: CRS job offer points were removed in 2025, but FSW selection still awards up to 10 points for a valid job offer.
