What is the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is an Express Entry stream for skilled professionals with foreign work experience who want to become Canadian permanent residents. It uses a points-based system to evaluate candidates based on education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.

FSWP Selection Factors (Out of 100 Points)

You need at least 67 points across six selection factors:

Note: CRS job offer points were removed in 2025, but FSW selection still awards up to 10 points for a valid job offer.

Federal Skilled Worker Program and Express Entry System

Express Entry Management System

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is managed through Canada’s Express Entry system, which ranks candidates using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Three Federal Programs

Express Entry manages three programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Competitive Selection Process

Candidates are ranked by CRS score in the Express Entry pool, with regular draws inviting top-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Fast Processing

Express Entry applications are processed within 6 months after receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
