Who Can Be Sponsored as a Conjugal Partner?

To be able to sponsor your conjugal partner you must be able to comply with the established requirements:

Age
You must be at least 18 years of age.
Status
You must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
Reside in Canada
You must be living in Canada or plan to live in Canada once the sponsorship application is approved.
Financial Stability
You must not receive social assistance (unless you have a disability) and you can provide for yourself, your partner or dependent children.
Criminal Background
You must prove you haven’t been convicted for a sexual or abuse offence, a violent crime or for threatening or attempting to commit any of these offences/crimes.
Permanent Residence
If you were previously sponsored by an ex-spouse or partner, five years must have passed since your received permanent residence.
